An Active Fire fire protection system installed in buildings such as sprinkler system, hydrant system is
undoubtedly are very effective, but has the in-built disadvantage of being dependent upon each of the
various elements of the chosen system working. For example vandalism of the water feed mechanism, damaged
valves or simple ignorance can render the system inoperative. It would be unwise, therefore to construct a
buildings fire defence around a single system that cannot be guaranteed.
Passive fire protection system on the other hand, insulates a structure and prevents the building from
collapsing when subject to the effects of fire. Passive fire protection provides extra time for the occupants
to escape and enable the fire fighters to enter safely and fight fire.
